Ruby on Rails may become something great or amount to nothing — it all depends on how the market embraces the novelty. But a lot can be done right now. Starting by learning about it.

I’ll be posting the main topics about the platform here and I hope everyone will contribute with ideas, suggestions, criticism and opinions.

Unfortunately there are still many challenges ahead. For starters, Rails materials in Portuguese are virtually nonexistent. Same for Brazilian websites. So when I say “starting from scratch,” I mean it.

The biggest challenge will be convincing the market. And that doesn’t happen overnight. It means it won’t yet be possible to set aside the Java legacy entirely. We’re entering a transition period where we’ll try to do both things in parallel.

Pioneers always walk through rough terrain, but the reward for the early ones is always greater too. That’s the point of the investment.
