@norman, I’m always impressed about how many people uses google translate on my website :-) I hope it does a good job not giving you a wrong translation. ‘Balaio de gato’ is a brazilian folk expression, it roughly means that it is a mess. I meant that in a shared hosting situation all bets are off.

About Heroku it is correct that it is not quite ready for prime time just yet but I think that after Gihub, Heroku is the next Rails ‘killer app’. That’s because it seems that Amazon itself doesn’t have any interesting in doing the last mile the same way as Google, giving developers a nice and clean interface to manage their slices. Amazon gives you rough APIs and a ‘good luck’.

For Railers, Heroku is willing to go the last mile: create a great experience so you can dump your brand new Digg-killer into the cloud without going through all the trouble of understanding each strange detail of AWS services.

So yes, I do think that Heroku is walking the right path. If it continues eventually it will hit a sweet spot and we all benefit. It seems like Google is not going to support Rails anytime soon as well, so it gives Heroku some time to deliver. We’ll see.

Very interesting post thanks you. I have been giving the Google Apps a try and it was great to see such informed comment on it.

At some point I would be very interested if you could say a bit more about Heroku (www.heroku.com) and what you think. As you have said it is “not quite ready” but it is close and I am enjoying giving it a try.

P.S. Used Google Translate and surprised how well it worked. I guess you have to know about “Balaio the cat” though.
